Our mind impacts our vision. It formulates our perception of ourselves and the wider world around us. God wants to change our minds so that our vision, perception, and ideas are transformed. He wants to broaden how we think so that he can expand how we act and live.

Pastor Patrick Winfield draws his sermon from Acts 2:1-18. This passage relays a crucial turning point for the early church – the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes upon the disciples, they began speaking in languages they previously did not know. Up to this point, the disciples only focused on the conversion of the Jews. After this, God changed their minds, and the Holy Spirit gave them a new way of communicating. When people from all nations heard them speak in their native language, they were amazed.

Pastor Winfield points out that if you want to change your life, the first thing you need to change is your mind. The mind is part of the invisible world of thought, feeling, attitude, belief, and imagination. It has power over the entire body and impacts every area of life. Therefore, you must have the mind of Christ to live out your promise and purpose. God will expand your mind before he expands your life.

Pastor Winfield iterates four points on this subject:

1) When God is ready to stretch your mind, He extends beyond mental measures and boxes to give an increasing measure of spiritual illumination that changes your identity.

What you know about yourself is limited. You are not aware of all that you’re capable of with Christ. God will put you in certain situations so that the truth is revealed to you and your identity is transformed. He wants to stretch your thinking so that you can expand into your destiny.

2) The Holy Spirit infuses into the life of that which is formed by the hand of God to expand your thinking. The new mind expands the old.

God breathed life into man. He awakens the mind. A mind alive continues to grow. A mind in death will not change. There can be no growth around you without growth inside of you. God’s creativity is eternal, and with His mindset, you have no limitations.

3) The Holy Spirit gives access to a divine mind and the courage to express it. The expanded mind will have outlooks caused by spiritual intervention.

God gave a new mind to the disciples because they were willing to expand their thinking. Likewise, how you are used by God is based on your willingness to be used. God pours into you according to your ability.

Pastor Winfield shares a touching example of his 10-year son meeting a couple who attend The Potter’s House of Fort Worth. The husband asked the son to ask Pastor Winfield to pray for healing because it was painful to walk. The son replied that he would relay the message, but also asked the man if he could pray for him too. As the man later told Pastor Winfield, when his son prayed for him, his pain immediately began to subside. When you allow God to expand your mind, you will do things that you and other thought or said you could not do.

4) God is able to expand every mind that is willing to break out of human norms to embrace new spiritual realities.

Human norms are the constructs that put you in a box, and sometimes we assign God to the same constructs. God, however, does not play by our rules. Peter, again, is proof of this. An uneducated tradesman was transformed into an authoritative preacher and bold witness for God by the renewing and expanding of his mind. Men might have written him off, put him in a box, told him what he could and could not do. God, however, had a different perspective, and when Peter grasped it and believed it, he rose into his destiny.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, everyone heard the message of Christ in their own language. Language, cultural, and gender barriers were torn down. Even women, servants and slaves heard the gospel. God proved Himself a God who ignores human limitations, a God who liberates, a God who can expand any mind willing to change.

Today is your day to break free. What God can do with you and for you is more than any person could ever imagine. Be willing to have your mind stretched, your perspective changed, your vision expanded. Today is your day to begin rising into your destiny.
