Pastor Winfield begins with three questions about honor and influence:

What is honor?
What are some ways you can live with honor?
What are some things that will influence you to not live with honor?

He emphasizes that without honor there is no influence. Influence starts at the place of identity; you must know who you are. Other hallmarks of influence are that it is attractive and transformational. As an example, he points to the men that joined up with David prior to him becoming king. These men were destitute, but David's influence transformed them into men of valor.

Honor is a powerful spiritual principle. Pastor Winfield warns that without honor, you will not see the promises of God in your life. Things that may keep you from living with honor are money, power, pride, and surrounding yourself with the wrong people (bad influence).

Honor, in the Bible, means to give weight to someone, to grant a person a position of respect or authority. When you give someone honor, you allow that person influence in your life. Often, honor is granted on the basis of position or wealth, but really, it should be granted based on character.

In Psalm 19 it says that "the heavens declare the glory of God." The heavens and earth were created by the power of God, and Pastor Winfield explains this means they carry within them a representation of God. Likewise, God created all of us, and inside each one of us is an essence of God's presence. The best way creation gives glory and honor back to God is by doing what it was made to do.

Often, we think of honor as a verbal action, but God is looking at what we do, not just what we say. Just like the rest of creation, anyone that follow God's direction in their life honors Him. This gives greater meaning to spiritual instruction like "seek first the kingdom of God." If we honor God by making Him the priority in our lives and allow Him the greatest influence, then He will take care of us.

As an example of this principle, Pastor Winfield points to the miracle of the five loaves and two fish. Hundreds of people sought out Jesus that day, wanting to hear his message. They made him their priority over their earthly need for food. In return, Jesus multiplied the five loaves and two fish and fed them all.
Fulfilling our God-given purpose brings honor to God. When Jesus sent out his disciples as witnesses, they had influence not because of their position or wealth or possessions, but because of their association with Christ. Their influence was a direct result of their obedience to God's direction.

Pastor Winfield then relates six principles of honor:

Honor sewn becomes honor received.
Meeting needs is a form of honor.
Acknowledging the significance of what someone has done is a form of honor. (Don't take each other for granted. Be thankful.)
You will have more influence with more honor.
Honor increases with the strength of humility (If God grants you a position of influence or authority, remember that it is not for you. It is so that you can bring honor to God.)
Honor gives impact to the principle of association. (Bad associations will equal negative influence. Good associations will, in turn, equal positive influence. Who you associate with matters.)
